Benefits of Cherry JuiceMontmorency cherries are traditionally known as the "pie cherry" and the "healing cherry"; There are several clinical studies underway researching the health benefits of cherry juice including folk remedies that use cherries to help relieve the pain associated with arthritis and gout. A study at Michigan State University that was conducted to examine these found that anthocyanins and their anlyon cyanidin, natural anti-inflammatory compounds, found in the pigment of the Montmorency cherry is 10 times more potent than aspirin, without irritating the stomach or causing kidney damage. Cherries may offer nature's most powerful combination of cell rejuvenating antioxidants and rare plant compounds, plus the highest ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) content per serving of any known fruit concentrate. Researchers at the Human Aging Institute found that when 5,000 ORAC units a day are consumed through food, the risk of disease and premature aging are substantially reduced. The antioxidants found in Montmorency tart cherries have been found superior to the activity of vitamins E and C. The cherries contain the flavoniods kaempferol, isoqueritrin and quercetin that act as antioxidants, as do anthocyanins, eliminating byproducts of oxidative stress and thereby slow the aging process.
